Our Shops

183 Cowley Road | St Clements

Age Concern Oxfordshire has two charity shops in Oxford, which are very different in character but both have a welcoming friendly atmosphere. The shops are crucial to the work of the organisation, generating income that is used to support our services and work with older people and their carers throughout Oxfordshire.

Both shops are run by teams of paid staff and volunteers. If you would like to join one of the teams as a volunteer or would like to donate items which can be sold at either of the shops please call or drop into either of the shops or contact us at our head office on 01235 849400.

Age Concern Oxfordshire values feedback from all our clients, visitors and the general public - this is just as important in our shops. So if you have any comments that you wish to make please speak to a member of staff at the shop concerned or phone our head office and ask to speak to Julie.

Books, CDs, DVDs, Videos, Records, Computer Games, Internet, Tea & Coffee

We are a little haven of tranquillity in an otherwise lively area of Oxford. 183, as it is known, is run by Jerry and Bev with the invaluable support of our volunteers and is open Monday to Saturday. We are proud of the broad spectrum of our clientele who visit us regularly: from locals to foreign visitors, young children to grandparents and professionals to students, there is something for everyone at 183.

We have thousands of good quality second-hand books, and some new titles of local interest, spanning all genres, some of which we list on Amazon.

We also have a range of CDs, DVDs, videos, vinyl records and computer games – you may be surprised at what you find!

We have three PCs running on a fast broadband connection for hire to the general public and a fourth community PC available for the use of our older customers and the disabled. Support is available from our friendly staff and basic training can be given on request during our quieter times. WiFi use is free for laptop users with a café purchase.

Why not take your time choosing your purchase and relax in our café area over a cup of tea or Fair Trade coffee, cappuccino or latte and a piece of cake. We also stock cold drinks, snacks and crisps.

St Clements

Our shop in St Clements, just off the Plain roundabout and 5 minutes walk from Cowley Rd Tesco and our shop at 183 Cowley Rd, is an Aladdin’s cave full of curiosities and surprises and is well known and respected throughout Oxfordshire. Dan has been with us for over 10 years and can often be found at the shop having a game of cards or playing trivial pursuit after our standard working hours and even occasionally on a Sunday (please do phone before making a special trip).

St Clements is still very much a traditional charity shop, unconventional, quirky - a character all its own. No sterile designer racks with just a few items, the designer goods are still there amongst a myriad of other offerings, just ask Dan, Steve, Jill or one of our volunteers for help or browse at your leisure.

Our ever changing stock includes:

And just about anything else our donors are kind enough to give us.

Regrettably we cannot accept: sharp knives, offensive weapons, items which we consider might cause offence to members of the public, children’s car seats, large items of furniture and obviously broken items. We have to pay to dispose of our waste which reduces the amount of income we generate to be spent on our charitable activities.

St Clements often has themed displays – in the past we have had a Barbie week, for New Year 2007 the shop was full of ducks! Next spring we will be having a retro month, so bring in your 50s, 60s & 70s gear to help us raise much needed funds for our work or come and buy, and be up to the minute in fashion once again.
